Apple to Ditch Google Maps, Own 3D Mapping Service for iPhone 5?
Apple recently acquired C3 Technologies, a company which has the technology to develop 3D maps, and according to recent reports Apple is planning to gain independence from Google Maps.
The purchase cost Apple $240 million but the future benefit relies on the capability to create photo-realistic mapping which has been termed “Google Maps on steroids“. This is the second 3D mapping firm the company has bought after the acquisition of Poly9 last year.
For Siri, perhaps the most talked about feature of iPhone 4S, Apple is relying on its rival’s technology for the ability to find and locate businesses. If Apple is going to pursue the strategy of casting aside Google Maps for the next generation iPhone, some reviewers are already wondering if this is such a good idea.
According to ThePopHerald, “New map application from Apple may disappoint many non-US iPhone users,” he explains, “Google Maps supports all countries, even the rural areas of Asia and Europe, and making a new map application may result in many unsupported areas.” In addition, Yahoo Weather is not available for iPhone users from some Asian cities, particularly in some provinces of China, Philippines and Thailand.
While some analysts are speculating whether Apple is going to gamble with the efficiency of its most innovative feature, others have noticed that the independence movement is already under way. For Siri Apple is using Yelp instead of Google Places, and Wolfram Alpha for information and not Google Search.

iPhone 5 release date 2012 mystery after iPhone 4S blew up iOS roadmap
October 31, 2011 by Bill Palmer
by Bill Palmer
“Where is the evidence that the iPhone 4S was some sort of stopgap ‘if we can’t get the iPhone 5 out’?” one reader asks regarding what really went down behind the scenes this year and, accordingly, the prospects for the iPhone 5 release date to come earlier in 2012 than calendar tradition might suggest. After all, “for all its secrecy, Apple has been a pretty consistent company in terms of its development cycle and planning.” Actually, Apple WAS pretty consistent with its iPhone development cycle – until it blew up the blueprint by keeping the iPhone 4 on the market for sixteen months instead of the usual twelve. Apple only would have done that if it was working on something more ambitious than merely the iPhone 4S. If the 4S had been the gameplan all along, it would have launched in the summer just like every iPhone before it. Instead, it was more likely a Plan B once Apple finally concluded it wasn’t going to be able to get its more ambitious plans out the door in time for the start of the holiday season…
But the skepticism continues: “Apple has 2-step model, interspersing major revisions with minor upgrades. 3G, 4 = major, 3GS, 4S = minor.” Actually, Apple only ever did that once, intentionally, with the 3GS being an external retread of the 3G before it. This time Apple clearly had other intentions, with the iPhone 5 either meant to be the only new iPhone model in 2011 or the iPhone 5 taking the flagship role as the 4S took over the budget role, pushing the iPhone 4 into the “free with contract” slot which the 3GS ended up in instead. Enough strangeness happened with the iPhone timeline in 2011 that the only thing we know for sure heading into 2012 is that there is no longer any pattern regarding iPhone release dates or model evolution, at least not one that anyone outside Cupertino is going to be able to pick up on…
As a result, we have a new landscape defined by two things: first, the October launch of the 4S means that there’s no longer a blueprint for iPhone releases. The next one could just as easily come in June or October; no one outside Cupertino knows. Second, the fact that Apple must have been working on more ambitious iPhone hardware during the June-to-October 2011 delay period means that there’s a next-gen iPhone lying in wait, which Apple can spring as early in 2012 as it wants to, provided it’s physically ready. If Apple’s original plan was for both an iPhone 5 (flagship) and an iPhone 4S (budget) to have launched simultaneously, then the company could be looking to rectify that by giving the iPhone 5 a release date and reducing the price of the 4S as quickly in 2012 as possible. Here’s more on the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5.

Apple iPhone 4S Battery Issues Might Have Been Pinpointed [Your iPhone’s Time …
It’s been a while since the iPhone 4S was launched, and a lot of people are now starting to recognize a problem with their batteries. Very early on, there were initial signs that the iPhone 4′s battery might be better than the newest iteration’s. And more lately, Apple’s engineers have actually been contacting people who have complained of poor battery life to try and resolve the issue.

According to iDownloadblog, the problem may be the phone’s Time Zone feature that automatically changes time zone the moment you cross into one different from your own. The author states that he noticed this issue from way back during iOS 5′s Golden Master days. Apparently, iOS 5 has a bug that keeps the Setting Time Zone function running all the time, which means it keeps location tracking on whether you like it or not.

Several people on the blog’s comments section reported improved battery life when they turned the function off. Will this method work for everyone? I’d wager the answer’s a “no.” But if you have no idea why your phone’s battery life is hurting, you can try disabling Setting Time Zone, and see how it goes.

iPhone 4S, Day Five: Out and About in the Real World
I don’t commute to work, so I can’t adequately test battery life in real world situations, or develop an understanding of whether these products will last a typical workday on a charge. Instead, I travel extensively, especially lately, and of course I move around locally, visiting restaurants, stores, and other establishments. So I do what I can do, with regards to the day-to-day experience of using whatever mobile device I’m testing.
I’ve read the stories about the iPhone 4S’s supposed decreased battery life and that Apple is investigating the issue with some users. I’ve not experienced that issue. And while I’ve only had the handset for several days now, I can report that, generally speaking, iPhone 4S battery life is certainly on par with other phones I’ve used. It’s no better and no worse.
What I’m more concerned with, from a day-to-day perspective, is how the iPhone 4S fares with the common tasks that I, my wife and friends, and many others wish to perform with a smart phone as we move about in the world. That is, aside from core functionality like making and receiving phone calls, accessing email and the web, and playing games, how well does the iPhone 4S perform as a mobile companion, helping you find and check-in the places that matter to you?
This is an area where Windows Phone generally excels, though as I noted in a recent editorial, Where Windows Phone Still Falls Short, that system’s integrated experiences are also in some ways incomplete, so your mileage may vary. But Windows Phone offers an excellent Local Scout feature, for finding restaurants, stores, sights, and other things of interest nearby, integrated ways to check-in via Facebook or Twitter, super-simple photo sharing (also via Facebook and Twitter), and more.
How about the iPhone 4S?
From a sheer apps standpoint, it’s no contest. Anything you want, and a couple of hundred thousand things you don’t, are available via Apple’s voluminous App Store. And in some cases, this can be a huge advantage. A photographer friend, for example, would put up with the so-so camera in her HTC Trophy if she could just get Instragram. A heavy user of Google services, like Google+, Picasa and Google Reader, will find the iPhone a much friendlier and well-supported platform than Windows Phone. And games? There are some great ones on Windows Phone. There are tons more–tons–on the iPhone.
Apps are a dual-edged sword, however. Sometimes, too much choice leads to a weird form of indecision, and whether it’s finding apps in an online store stocked with hundreds of thousands of them, or on a device with screen after screen of apps and folders of apps, more can be less. Too, apps enforce an implicit responsibility on the user’s part: You need to know which app to use in a given situation and you need to find and launch that app on your phone to get something done.
Here’s how this can be problematic on the iPhone 4S. I use Facebook, not Google+, Twitter, or Foursquare, to share things when I’m out in the world. This means checking-in of course, but also sharing posts and photos, and messaging with people, via Facebook’s email-like system or via live chats. All of this functionality is integrated directly into Windows Phone, no app required. (Though, as noted in the previously mentioned article, some of this is not as full-featured as I’d like.) None of it is built into the iPhone 4S’s iOS 5.
So when I take a fun photo–which is still a few steps too many in iOS 5, despite improvements–right at the moment I’d like to share that pictures–which is “immediately”–I can’t. On the iPhone 4S, there are options for sending the photo via email, MMS/iMessage, or Twitter–but not Facebook or any other services. On Windows Phone, you can share to multiple online services, immediately, including the one everyone actually uses, Facebook.

The iPhone 4S offers integrated sharing with some services, but not Facebook.
So you learn to use the Facebook app, conforming to the iPhone’s way of doing things. And it’s not just different, it’s less efficient.
Here’s the thing. For many people, the safety of the iPhone’s sheer number of apps outweighs a little inefficiency. And while I’m not sure if this qualifies as ironic per se, it’s interesting to me that the iPhone’s number one advantage today is the same advantage that Windows had/has in the PC market: The safety of numbers. You chose Windows PCs because that’s where the apps were. Now you choose an iPhone because that’s where the apps are.
So people develop habits. They organize the iPhone’s home screens as they wish, and it becomes theirs. And as they buy apps and other content, and become more and more familiar with the way this system works, they’re less likely to ever consider another mobile platform. Who’s thinking about making Switcher ads now, eh?
As for me, I can be trained as well as any lemming. I learned very early on that I need to use the Facebook app for sharing, so I put it right on my first home screen. (Well, mostly; I still try to share from the Camera app.) One can conduct Internet and Wikipedia searches from that “search” screen that’s to the left of the first home screen, and that’s useful once you figure it out. And you can search for nearby places–with searches like sushi–from the Maps app, and, with Siri, for many other things as well. (I’ll discuss Siri further in my coming review.)

Hooray for (local) sushi!
And there is of course some integration on the iPhone 4S, thanks to advances in iOS 5. Every picture I take with the device’s camera is automatically uploaded, and in full resolution–to the Photo Stream that’s attached to my iCloud account. These photos are thus automatically downloaded to my PC as well. That’s very useful.
And that camera. As noted previously, the iPhone 4S camera is the best smart phone camera I’ve used so far. And while I expect the Nokia Lumia 800 to give it a run for its money, the iPhone 4S is here in my pocket, now. That, combined with the iCloud photo auto-upload functionality, is reason enough for many to choose this device. Add in the apps selection and the other unique iPhone/iOS features and you have the makings of a slam dunk.
Put simply, the iPhone 4S is a great mobile companion, with an excellent camera, useful online services integration, the best apps selection anywhere, and a slate of functionality that is competitive with anything offered on Windows Phone, or Android for that matter. I get why people like the iPhone so much. And while I could quibble over technical issues, the simple fact remains that the iPhone 4S is an excellent smart phone. All you need to do is carry one around to find that out.

iPhone 4S trumps 5 in October surprise: how Siri came late in retread
October 30, 2011 by Bill Palmer
by Bill Palmer
The iPhone 4S couldn’t arrive alone, logic dictated, because Apple’s four month pushback from its traditional summer iPhone launching pad to October meant the company was working overtime on something more, like a revamped iPhone 5. That logic failed to account for the scenario in which Apple ultimately realized it wasn’t going to be able to get the iPhone 5 to market in time for the start of the holiday shopping season and, feeling it needed to get something out the door in 2011, pushed the iPhone 4S out the door on its own. It was the worst of both worlds in the eyes of consumers, at least initially, as the 4S combined an overlong waiting period prior to its arrival and a total lack of hardware innovation or even renovation, at least externally. The saving grace, however, may have come in the fact that Apple ended up taking many of the would-be iPhone 5 features and stuffed them into the iPhone 4S instead, from Siri to the A5 processor, delivering a worthy if not flashy upgrade path. But what was really going on behind the scenes during those several months in which the world wondered where the new iPhone went?
Some have pointed to Apple’s recycling of the iPhone 3G in the form of the 3GS back in the summer of 2009 as evidence that the iPhone 4S might have been the plan for 2011 all along. But that theory falls down in two places, one of them fatally. First there’s the fact that despite claims that “Apple always keeps an iPhone body style around for two iterations,” the reality is that it’s only ever happened once. Apple used one body style with the original iPhone and then immediately moved to a new one a year later with the iPhone 3G (which was actually the second generation model). And while the 3GS was a solid upgrade, it didn’t garner nearly as much respect with consumers as it should have. Apple likely learned that lesson and made plans to introduce a new iPhone body style yearly going forward. That was evidenced by the fact that if Apple had been planning all along to do an iPhone 4S as its new flagship iPhone in 2011, that would have happened back in the summer. There was no new body style to design, no big revamp, nothing to have prevented the 4S from arriving in the summer like new iPhones always do. That all but cements the fact that Apple was working on an iPhone 5 instead, ran into problems, and kept pushing back its release date until it became clear that it would have to wait until next year altogether. So what, then, was the iPhone 4S all about?
Apple’s release of the white iPhone 4 back in April made clear even back then that the company knew the next iPhone would be delayed; it wouldn’t have updated the iPhone 4 lineup at the end of April if it was expecting to introduce a new iPhone generation in the summer. The iPhone 4S may have been drawn up at that point as a fallback plan in case the iPhone 5 wasn’t ready for 2011 release. Or the iPhone 4S may have been in the cards all along as a budget model intended to replace the iPhone 4. The idea would have been to kill off the segregated ATT and Verizon iterations of the iPhone 4 and replace them with a single iPhone 4S which could talk to ATT, Verizon, and newcomer Sprint. If Siri and the A5 were intended to be the headlining features of the iPhone 5, were they also supposed to have made their way into the iPhone 4S? We may never know. As it turned out, the iPhone 5 was canned for 2011 for reasons which may also never be known, and October saw the iPhone 4S sent up to bat all by its lonesome – but with some of the best proposed iPhone 5 features in tow. Here’s more on the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5.

iPhone 4S: Siri, A5 and five other reasons to dive in, four to skip it
October 30, 2011 by Bill Palmer
by Bill Palmer
The iPhone 4S is a record setting hot seller thanks to features like Siri and availability on carriers like Sprint, but not everyone is biting. The most common question we get is whether it’s more advisable to plunk down on the 4S now or wait until next year for Apple’s next iPhone which will invariably come with a new bag of tricks. For the majority of users we advise taking the plunge now, but the answer is different for each user based on their circumstance and preferences. For the sake of both sides of the argument, here’s a look at several reasons to buy the iPhone 4S now, followed by a few reasons to consider skipping it.
Siri: Any discussion of the iPhone 4S must start here. Unlike voice command products of the past, which were too robotic and too inaccurate, Siri is receiving (mostly) high marks both for its ability to understand plain English and for its accuracy in figuring out what you’re really looking for it to do. But Siri is just one of a number of features the iPhone 4S offers, most of which are less sexy and less publicized…
A5: This microprocessor family first debuted in the iPad 2, and what it brings to the table is speed. Don’t be fooled by the familiar body style of the iPhone 4S, as it’s a different beast inside. The A5 runs circles around the A4 found in the iPhone 4, particularly when using apps (like video games) which are complex and require a large amount of computation or display complex graphics.
Sprint: This one is simple. The iPhone 4 was initially available only on ATT, then later expanded to Verizon. The iPhone 4S adds Sprint compatibility to the first two.
You’re eligible: If you’re still clinging to your iPhone 3GS because you weren’t upgrade eligible for the iPhone 4 last year or because you couldn’t afford a new phone last year, the iPhone 4S rewards you for waiting. The 4S is a second chance to get the iPhone 4 at upgrade-eligible pricing (anyone who bought a 3GS in 2009 is certainly eligible for an upgrade by now), and it’s a better device than the original iPhone 4.
It’s in white: So you bought an iPhone 4 sixteen months ago, and you ended up with black even though you wanted white because the white model was delayed. As shallow as it may sound, the 4S gives you an excuse to get a white one.
Capacity: The iPhone 4S is the first iPhone to offer sixty-four gigabytes of storage on the high end, meaning you might finally be able to fit all of your music on it. That could mean jettisoning that old iPod classic model you’ve been keeping around purely for capacity purposes.
iOS 5: Apple’s new operating system runs fine on the iPhone 4 and it’s a free upgrade. But as users have found out, its more advanced features run better on the faster iPhone 4S.
There are, of course, reasons to think twice about the iPhone 4S and consider holding off for next year’s iPhone…
Battery: The iPhone 4 represented a major advance in battery life over the 3GS, but the 4S doesn’t offer a substantial boost over the 4. Furthermore, a handful of 4S buyers have found themselves subjected to a bug which actually drains battery faster than ever. That bug should be cleaned up in the iOS 5.0.1 software update, but it might be worth holding off from buying at least until that arrives.
4G LTE: With the carriers being slow to build their nationwide 4G LTE networks (none of them has covered more than about a third of their respective customers, and some of them have done far worse), most iPhone 4S users won’t care that it doesn’t have LTE networking built in. But if you’re the type who likes to buy a phone and then hand onto it for awhile (read: more than a year), you might resent the iPhone 4S by this time next year when the iPhone 5 debuts with 4G LTE built in and the carriers have finally built 4G LTE towers in your town.
You’re not eligible: If you have an iPhone 4, you might or might not be eligible for upgrade pricing as of now. Despite two year contracts, carriers offer upgrade pricing at twelve, eighteen, or twenty month intervals after you bought your most recent phone (good luck trying to calculate which interval you’re on; better to just call them and ask). If you’re not yet upgrade-eligible, and those who bought their iPhone 4 later in the game almost certainly aren’t, you could look at paying $399 or $449 for the “$199″ iPhone 4S model. This is true of all carriers and all phones, nothing specific to the iPhone, but it’s worth considering when eyeballing the 4S.
You’re bored: Skipping the iPhone 4S because it looks just like the old one is as shallow as buying the iPhone 4S because it comes in white. But aesthetics can be important, so if you’re bummed that the iPhone 4S re-uses the iPhone 4 body style, we’re not going to judge.
Here’s more on the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5.

Did Steve Jobs Work Until The End On The iPhone 5?
An inside source says Steve Jobs was on the phone with Apple until his very last day, fueling speculation that he personally oversaw the iPhone 5.
Japanese businessman Masayoshi Son spoke in an interview about a meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook several weeks ago.
“I visited Apple for the announcement of the iPhone 4S [at Apple headquarters in Cupertino, California]. When I was having a meeting with Tim Cook, he said, ‘Oh Masa, sorry I have to quit our meeting.’ I said, ‘Where are you going?’ He said, ‘My boss is calling me.’ That was the day of the announcement of the iPhone 4S. He said that Steve is calling me because he wants to talk about their next product. And the next day, he died.”
Son goes on to praise Jobs’s “spirit,” and his powerful commitment to his work.
Son also emphasizes that Jobs was apparently working not on the iPhone 4S, but on whatever product is coming next. In addition, CNET reports that market analysts are claiming Jobs “was intimately involved” with the next generation iPhone, “from concept to final design.”
What do you think? Does the 4S live up to Jobs’ vision? Will the iPhone 5 be the true “next generation”?

Jailbreak/Unlock Iphone 4S,4,3Gs IOS 5 with Ghost!
Finally GhostApp.org team has released ghost v 5.0,a tool that its able to jailbreak unlock iphone 4s,4,3gs in just few minutes. The search for an unlock and untethered jailbreak ios 5 mobile operating sistem released by Apple few days ago, it’s over. The GhostApp.org Team has released FastRa1n a jailbreak iPhone 4 ios 5 untethered and unlock tool called ghost v5.0. The name of the ios 5 jailbreak and unlock tool is Ghost 5.0 , a very easy to use software. Many members and iPhone fans has confirmed that Ghost 5.0 is stable and it can easy jailbreak and unlock the new iOS 5 and you will be able to install cydia. Here’s some news that might give pleasure to a lot of people, especially those who have recently fallen for the unlock/jailbreak iPhone 4S/4/3Gs or iPad 2. For indeed, the Dev-Team has managed to exploit a flaw in the two jailbreak iDevices and even to run Cydia! Knowing that they resisted for a while the invader, so it’s great news. But be careful anyway because we will have to wait a bit before enjoying. And for good reason as this feat is still fresh hackers and that our friends will now have to work on a more comprehensive tool.
And as the ad itself MuscleNerd on Twitter, then this is a “very Preliminary jailbreak.” What does it mean? Just as members of the Dev-Team managed to find a loophole and exploit it to run Cydia but there is still much hard work before it is fully functional. Racing results, this jailbreak solution for unlock/jailbreak iPhone 4S/4/3Gs and iPad 2 will not be released immediately. And basically, it also means that you will have to wait a little longer before you can enjoy.
Okay, you should probably start finding long time but it’s still great news. Until now, unlock/jailbreak iPhone 4S/4/3Gs and the iPad 2 remained untouched and was beginning to wonder if the Dev-Team would achieve its goals. Once again, it has therefore proved no protection is 100% reliable and no doubt the most hated team in Cupertino will now work twice as hard to get us out a workable version of their tool. With any luck, it is even possible that we can take advantage of Cydia on the unlock/jailbreak iPhone 4S/4/3Gs and the iPad 4S 2 before the end of the year. And look the other way, it would still be a nice gift, right?
Oh and finally, a short video of an iPad 2 being run Cydia …
