Ellen DeGeneres Dances for iPhone 4S’ Siri

While Apple’s release of the iPhone 4S earlier this year was a little dissatisfying to those Apple fans anxiously awaiting an iPhone 5, the introduction of Siri – a sort of virtual assistant, if you will – seems to have squashed all feelings of disappointment. Siri makes everything a user does on the iPhone easier, including making appointments, taking notes, sending texts, Tweeting or posting to Facebook, checking the weather and more.

Just tell Siri what to do, and she does it. Whether you’re a high school student in a small town or a big-time star like Ellen DeGeneres, give Siri the instruction, and watch her work her magic (well, tech magic).

Ellen has the latest version of the iPhone, complete with Siri, who just so happens to be so intuitive that she recognizes the star’s voice. But that’s not all. Siri – of course, being so smart – uses her power to talk back to the talk show host, asking for tickets to the 12 Days of Giveaways shows Ellen hosts each season. No surprise that Siri is also too smart to stop there. Check out Ellen’s Siri commercial below to see the full range of Siri’s intuituion:

New iPhone 5 Vibrate Feature Mentioned During Glee

The FOX TV show of Glee is a very popular production amongst the current teenage generation, mainly because of the themes that are involved/portrayed, and the various covers of Top-40 music hits that the characters perform throughout the show as well. With this show being so popular, and having an average of ten million viewers, it is a great medium to subtly insert product placement.

During last night’s (11/29/2011) episode of “I Kissed a Girl,” the pessimistic coach Sue Sylvester (played by Jane Lynch) mentioned “My iPhone 5 is vibrating. It’s a new feature of the iPhone 5. They vibrate!” With this in mind, I have heard from various iPhone users that existing iPhones already have a vibrate feature; however, with the latest iOS 5 update, what was probably intended to be communicated by Sue is that the latest iOS update and iPhone 5 will have “custom vibration options.” These customized vibrations can also be utilized on the iPhone 4(S) (if you have iOS 5) as shown in the YouTube video below.

Even with the mixed-up iPhone feature mention, the Twitter community has reacted…

Did Apple just score iPhone 5 product placement on Glee? Weird… 18 hours ago via web · powered by @socialditto

Speaking of Glee and product placement, did anyone else see the new Google Plus commercial (shown below)?

iPhone 5 a la Galaxy Nexus arriving in March?

Google

New rumor is claiming that the iPhone 5 will feature a curved glass. Similar to the Nexus S or Galaxy Nexus?

Galaxy Nexus is not yet available in the United States, but it looks like the flagship Android Ice Cream Sandwich will face an iPhone rival with bigger display, and possibly with a curved display next year.

Apple’s next smartphone will feature a curved glass which is quite similar to the Galaxy Nexus of Samsung? Well, if the new speculations are to be believed, then it is highly possible that Apple and Google Android’s rivalry will continue, including the debate regarding the “who copied who.”

According to a Telegraph article posted today citing Digitimes, a respectable tech site based in Asia, “industry sources” have confirmed that Apple’s iPhone 5 will feature a curved glass but industry glass makers are reportedly reluctant to manufacture for the computer company due to the high capital needed most likely due to Apple’s “bulk orders.”

iPhone 5 with Curved glass rumor resurfaces today. Is Apple really building a new smartphone that will arrive early next year?

“iPhone 5 with Curved glass” rumor resurfaces today. Is Apple really building a new smartphone that will arrive early next year?

The site’s unnamed sources also reportedly outed Apple’s glass machine purchases to achieve its curved-glass goal. Apple reportedly ordered a total of 200-300 glass cutting machines so it looks like Apple is predicting yet another mass production to meet the demand for the next iPhone. It is worth noting that the reports used by the new Telegraph article were posted before the announcement of the iPhone 4S last month so we should take them with a grain of salt.

The report is also claiming that blogs are now speculating about the iPhone 5′s “release date in March” which is the iPad quarter based on previous product cycles of Apple.

Apple’s latest iPhone, the iPhone 4S, was released last month and Apple is claiming that it is the biggest selling iPhone yet. Can the iPhone 5 outsell the iPhone 4S? Well, aside from the curved glass, new rumors citing (still) anonymous sources say the next iPhone is also expected to feature a larger screen. The rumor about the Japanese LCD supplier said the iPhone 5 will feature a 4-inch screen but no word about the resolution of the new touchscreen. The current model features 326 pixels per inch and Apple is calling it “Retina Display” due to crispness of text and clarity of color courtesy of the higher “ppi.”

Apple’s biggest rival, Google Android, is currently selling a smartphone (in Europe and Asia) with large touchscreen and impressive display, the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus with the Google Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. According to reports, the Galaxy Nexus features a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED screen with 310 pixels per inch. It is worth noting that the 326 ppi and 310 ppi are very close and it will be hard to see the difference.

Aside from the Galaxy Nexus, the Android family is also expected to welcome a set of new smartphones early next year coming from Samsung, HTC, Motorola and others, and the new smartphones are expected to take advantage of the new Android operating system. Can the Apple iPhone 5 offer an exciting new feature?

Report: Apple iPhone 5, with larger screen, coming in March

Apple is expected to launch the next iteration of its popular iPhone in March. The new device is expected to have a 4″ LCD touch screen, an increase of a half an inch, putting the new iPhone in line with the majority of top Google Android phones.

The change would also be in line with reports that Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was working on a “radical redesign” of the iPhone up until very shortly before his death earlier this year.

Steve Jobs’ worth, iPhone 5′s arrival among 2011′s top online question topics

Natural disasters — the Japan earthquake and Hurricane Irene — have spurred the most online news searches in 2011, though
big news and rumors about Apple weren’t far behind.

Ask.com, which specializes in answering online questions, has issued its annual lists of most-searched-on terms and questions for
the year by its 60 million users, broken down into categories such as news, celebrities and politics.

The top trending question among celebrity searches — “Was Kim Kardashian’s wedding fake?” — edged out “Is Justin Bieber
going to be a dad?” and “Are Lady Gaga’s face implants real?” Users wanted to know if President Obama would get elected and
had questions about contender Mitt Romney’s religion. The Royal Wedding, Osama bin Laden’s death and Occupy Wall Street’s
birth also captured huge interest.

STILL HAVE QUESTIONS? Quora: The next social network IT pros need to know?

Technology stories didn’t rate very high in news, aside from those involving Apple. Searchers were curious about Steve Jobs’s
worth, presumably following his death in October, and Apple fanboys and fangirls were insatiable when it came to finding out
when the elusive iPhone 5 might debut (We’ve been rounding up iPhone 5 rumors for months and regret to say we still have no real answers …). As it turns out, Apple enthusiasts get to keep asking questions
about iPhone 5 since Apple just came out with the iPhone 4S instead.

AOL, which also issued its lists of top searches, found not surprisingly that Apple dominated searches about gadgets, with Apple iPhone and Apple iPad topping the chart. “Is the iPhone 3GS free?” and “Is Facebook going to charge?” also weighed on people’s minds.

Ask.com also peeked into its crystal ball for 2012, based on the sort of questions its users were asking this year, to make
some predictions. The search company says to expect oodles of Dr. Oz, George Clooney (who is rumored to be a contender to play Steve Jobs in the movies) and Nicki Minaj questions to be asked, and to be on the lookout for a blockbuster IPO from Facebook

Sorry, Tim Cook, Ask.com doesn’t appear to think people are too obsessed with you yet even though you’re Apple’s new CEO. No big predictions
about you.

Report: iPhone 5 and iPad 3 Will Both Get Superfast LTE 4G Speeds

Report: Apple's Finally Going 4G with iPhone 5 and iPad 3Apple LTE rumors crop up all the time, but this one in particular has caught our attention: consistently reliable Japanese publication Nikkei Business is reporting that next year’s iPhone 5 and iPad 3 will both be LTE 4G beasts. Giddyup.

The report indicates that Apple CEO Tim Cook has already met with executives from Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo to discuss next summer’s 4G iPad 3 and next fall’s iPhone 5. The timing works out; Japan got the iPad 2 in late April this year, about about six weeks after the US. And with Apple moving to a fall release schedule with the 4S, new iPhones and fall go together like hot fudge and sundaes. But in a broader sense, the timing works for Apple’s leap into 4G. Peppy network speeds are quickly becoming table stakes for Android hardware, phones and tablets alike. And while the iPhone 4S trades speed for better battery life, Cupertino simply can’t afford another year on the sidelines. [Nikkei Business via MacRumors]

iPhone 5 Camera Dock: The Apple iCam

Maybe the Apple iCam already exists somewhere in a parallel universe, but here and now we’re stuck with the concept renderings. The idea comes from ADR Studio, an Italian design outfit with a penchant for dreaming up fantastic Apple products that don’t yet exist. The iCam takes the words “iPhone Accessory” to a whole new level.

First off, ADR took some liberties and forecast the next generation iPhone with a thinner profile, larger screen and oval home button. Whether or not the iPhone 5 looks like this, an iCam model compatible with the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S would have a similar form factor.

Sure, iOS 5 made it possible to use the up volume button to snap photos. The iCam takes things to a whole other level and involves a complete camera body with its own Apple-style home button. Interchangeable lenses and a massive image sensor (ok, while we’re dreaming might as well reach for the sky) are enclosed in an all-aluminum chassis that docks directly to the iPhone.

When docked, the iPhone 5 automatically runs a special app that acts as the brains of the iCam, and provides information and touch screen buttons to help control the next exposure. Images are stored directly on the iPhone camera roll and can be shared instantly thanks to the iPhone’s Wi-Fi or LTE 4G connection.

Of course, the App Store would offer third party apps compatible with the iCam for all kinds of specialized applications. ADR envisions the Apple iCam sporting a front-facing display as well as a pico projector to display images to the entire room. iCam could be an incredible entry into the digital camera market, however since owning an iPhone 5 would be a prerequisite for purchase this might limit its appeal.

The iCam will launch never at a suggested retail price of you only wish.

iPhone 5 rumors of 4-inch IGZO screen

<!–
–>By (@richi ) – November 29, 2011.

Apple is believed to be closer to an iPhone 5 release date. The pomaceous company (NASDAQ:AAPL) is rumored to be funding Hitachi and Sony in making 4-inch IGZO (indium, gallium, zinc) displays. In IT Blogwatch, bloggers recall the disappointment of the 4S announcement keynote.

Your humble blogwatcher curated these bloggy bits for your entertainment. Not to mention: In France, Photoshop is illegal, or something…

John Cox reports “reality”:

It’s real: iPhone 5 will have a 4-inch display. … [A] Japanese website…claimed that Hitachi and Sony have teamed up to build 4-inch…displays for a “new iOS device”. … The 4-inch screen is already shipping.

Maybe the source is one of those…case makers who is still hoping to recoup the money lost when they [gambled on] the big-screened…iPhone [5] that turned out to be the same-screened iPhone 4S.

The iOSsphere doesn’t process irony.    M0RE

From Japan, danbo adds:

According to [an] Asian source, Hitachi Displays, Ltd. and Sony Mobile Display Corporation [have] started to ship 4-inch [displays] for [a] new iOS device. … These 2 companies will [merge] with Toshiba Mobile Display Co., Ltd., as “Japan Display” in…spring.    M0RE

Neil Hughes’ anonymous minions triangulate the rumor:

The report arrives on the heels of claims…earlier this week that Sharp will also produce panels for the iPad 3 at its…plant in central Japan; Apple typically sources its components from multiple partners.

[Rumors say] Apple has invested an unspecified amount in Sharp’s factories…to help support Sharp’s production capacity for IGZO…panels…that will allow for thinner designs and improved battery performance.    M0RE

Meanwhile, Philip Elmer-DeWitt has been grubbing around in analyst reports:

Jefferies analyst Peter Misek…[says] that Apple has sunk…as much as a billion dollars into a new supplier ([i.e.] not Samsung)…to build the next generation of iPads and iPhones with…battery life and prices its competitors will be hard-pressed to match. I quote:

“For the iPhone 5 LTE…this new facility will be used to supply displays. The IGZO technology is perfect in that it offers near-OLED power consumption while having a lower cost and [thickness]…only 25% greater than OLED.”    M0RE

Yes, but what about the **** release date? Lewis Curdie doesn’t help much:

The source goes on to suggest that the iPad 3 and iPhone 5 will arrive at some point next year.

To be fair, my mum could probably tell you that.    M0RE

And Finally…
In France, Photoshop is illegal, or something

iPhone 5 reference let slip by Apple

Apple is a secretive company at the best of times – we were kept guessing about the true nature of the iPhone 4S right up to launch day. However, official evidence has just emerged of its next generation smartphone, the iPhone 5. You just have to dig a little deeper than normal to see it…

Apple has just released the beta of the first major iOS 5 update to developers, and it contains more than just a few fixes and improvements if you’re looking for juicy morsels of information.

Dive into iOS 5.1′s code and you’ll find mention of a mysterious new device – the iPhone 5,1.

To give you an idea of Apple’s behind-the-scenes terminology, the iPhone 4 is known as the iPhone 3,1 while the iPhone 4S is referred to as the iPhone 4,1. It’s also worth nothing that the company keeps the same figure when the internals of a device are inherently the same – so the original iPhone was 1,1 and the 3G update was 1,2.

YOU SHOULD READ — iPhone 5 to get 4-inch Retina display

What can we draw from this? That the iPhone 5,1 is the follow-on from the iPhone 4S, and that it will have completely new internals. We’re guessing it’ll have a quad-core A6 processor, based on the last few iterations and the current smartphone tech scene.

With the recent news that the iPhone 5 is likely to feature a 4-inch Retina display, we look set to get the completely new iPhone many have been hankering for since shortly after the launch of the iPhone 4.

The question now is, will Apple stick with its new autumn release slot, or revert to the summer for the iPhone 5? If it’s the latter, would you iPhone 4S owners be a little miffed?
