Purported photos of iPhone 5 back plates showcase larger display, moved …

Forget anonymous sources within the supply chain, the latest iPhone 5 rumor is a doozy and has more evidence than we’ve seen to date.

9to5Mac scored the scoop by securing photos of what purport to be the back plates for Apple’s next-gen iPhone. The image, seen below, corroborates a previous report from the typically reliable Jason Horwitz of iLounge who wrote a few weeks ago that the iPhone 5 will be the same width but will have a longer screen, resulting in a 4-inch display.

Furthermore, the photos corroborate Horwit’z claim that the next-gen iPhone will have a metallic sheen on the back a’la the recent iMac models.

From a production standpoint, it appears that the metal antenna band is molded into the metal backplates. We assume this is Apple’s way of creating a unibody enclosure for mobile devices. Apple introduced unibody notebooks in late 2008, and the purpose of the unibody is to allow Apple to produce thinner and lighter, yet stronger, devices. Now that most of the phone’s external elements are one piece, Apple is likely able to squeeze more into the iPhone internally. Apple needs all the space they can get with their plans of producing LTE smartphones with proper battery life.

And speaking of better battery life, if you look closely at the photos, you can see that the dock connector is noticeably smaller. You might remember a number of rumors pointing to a smaller dock connector. And while there might be other considerations Apple is taking to mind, a smaller dock connector would free up some space inside the phone to potentially allow for a larger battery. And if we assume that the next-gen iPhone will support 4G LTE and feature a larger display, well, it’s going to need all the juice it can get.

Another interesting difference – note how the headphone jack is located near the dock connector. While Apple has used that design on the iPod Touch before, all previous iPhone models have had the earphone jack located at the top of the device. There are a few more interesting tidbits worth checking out so head on over to 9to5Mac for the full scoop.

A leaked image gives us a first glimpse of the iPhone5 – and anyone who was waiting for a bigger screen may finally have their prayers answered.

Established Apple site 9to5Mac revealed a leaked image of what is claimed to be the iPhone5, and the site – which has a good record for reporting accurate leaks from Apple – has a plethora of details about the new model.

For the first time, the iPhone shakes off the 3.5inch screen-size, bowing to the latest generation of Android smartphones, which over the course of the last two years have shifted the typical screen from  three-to up to four or even five inches.

With Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference due in San Fransisco on Monday, June 11, iPhone fans are hoping to get either a glimpse or a confirmed release date in just a few weeks.

It's coming! 9to5Mac has released this image, purported to be the iPhone 5. Features that can be spotted include a much larger screen, and a smaller dock connector

It’s coming! 9to5Mac has released this image, purported to be the iPhone 5. Features that can be spotted include a much larger screen, and a smaller dock connector

9to5Mac estimates the new screen size at a very specific 3.999inches, with a resolution of 1136×640, giving the screen the ‘Retina’-like feel of the new iPad.

There appears to be a choice of colours – a black model and a white model – as has been the case with the last few models of iPhone.

Other hints given away by the photo – and more are available at 9to5Mac – are that Apple has redesigned the dock connector to be smaller.

This may end up making older accessories – from charger cables to speaker docks – incompatible, but there will likely be adapters released to ensure older accessories still work.

Speaking of compatibility, developers may need to update their apps to take advantage of the larger size, or there may be a situation similar to when the first iPad was launched, when iPhone apps would appear with a big black border around the age.

The iPhone 4S was released in the UK and US on October 14 last year, and Apple is expected to follow suit with an Autumn launch this year – although, as ever, the company is staying notoriously tight-lipped.

Following the death of co-founder Steve Jobs last year, new CEO Tim Cook will lead the WDC conference this year, to the gathered developers about the future of Apple, upcoming products and changes to both Mac software software and iOS, the mobile version of Apple’s operating system.

The iPhone 4S: While iconic, critics say the small screen size and tile-based interface is being left behind

Two weeks ago Apple registered the iPhone5.com domain name, amid rumours that the next model is the final model approved by Jobs.

Bloomberg cited a source ‘with knowledge of the plans’ surrounding the new iPhone who claimed that Mr Jobs played a key role in the development of the device, even while on medical leave from his company.

A shakeup in the design of a larger-screen iPhone could go a long way in boosting its ‘wow’ factor, convincing fans to trade in their old iPhones for new ones, said Shaw Wu, an analyst at Sterne Agee.

‘Not only do users pay for features, but they also pay for aesthetics and design.

‘That’s as important, or more important, than features,’ Mr Wu said.

‘People love the current design – but it’s 18 months old.’

With the release of Android devices such as the HTC One X and the Samsung Galaxy S3, packing quad-core processors and almost five-inch screens, the impetus lies with Apple to innovate and revolutionise the market once more.

If they’re going to redesign the dock connector, why don’t they use micro USB like every other phone manufacturer?

Imagine all the docking stations they’d have to change, or new ones they’d have to bring out if the charging port is that small, stupid idea, should keep it the same!!
- Tom, Warrington, 31/5/2012 12:07…………………..Imagine all the extra profits they’ll make by you having to buy all those extra adaptors and new docking stations then decide who’s stupid, them with their idea or you with all that extra cost.

George from Rockville….I hate to break this to you, but putting “….NOT” at the end of a sentence in order to negate the preceding statement stopped being funny in the late1990s.

Steve Jobs would turn in his grave! The idea is that when you hold it, your thumb can reach the far corner of the phone, thus making it more useable with one hand. I’d be very surprised if they make it bigger!

And let’s look forward to the lines of sad, lonely geeks queuing outside shops at stupid o’clock in the morning to get their hands on one in order to make them feel their empty lives have any sort of purpose…

Phones tend to come free with a 24 month contract so they don’t have to pay for the phone upfront

It’s interestingthat the high street is in so much trouble but mugs can pay 100s of pounds for these phones, including teenagers. Where do they all get the money from? Are there actually a lot of rich people out there…or am I missing something? Maybe I just prefer to spend my money on life.

Yawn…

I’m bored with this Iphone,Galaxy.Comunication is all about being human and we can talk through any medium just get on with it….

Wow! Virtually the same design as the old one with a bigger screen. Wheres the innovation?
I prefer the S3 visuals tbh.

Apple iPhone 5: Images leaked

Zeebiz Bureau

New Delhi: The tech world is infamous for its leaks and very few phone companies are able to save images its new models from being out on the internet before its launch.

This time Apple’s upcoming model of iPhone- iPhone 5’s images have been released much before its expected announcement in June this year.

According to the tech blog 9to5Mac, next-generation iPhone will come in two colours- Black and White.

iPhone 5 will have "multi-point camera focusing system"

Talk about “wow.” The reason for this is the fact that Apple was recently awarded a patent for a multi-point camera focusing system, (as noted by AppleInsider) and what better device to put the patent to use in than with the iPhone 5. See also iPhone 5 release date, specs and rumour round up.

Apple’s patent for a multi-focus camera system is set to be included in the iPhone 5.

According to the website, the MPCFS patent “describes a system that lets the user of a camera-equipped device select two or more areas of focus on a touchscreen which, when a picture is taken, are passed through a dedicated image processor to produce optimal sharpness and exposure for both regions.” Visit New iPhone 5 to have flexible display.

“The patent calls for an image processor that continuously tracks the user-defined “regions of interest” in a combination of live image processing and auto-focus technology similar to that found in the iPhone 4S,” AppleInsider notes. “Unlike the current handset, however, the focus will not be limited to center-weighting or face-detection and will in theory choose the best mix of camera settings to achieve the highest possible clarity in the multiple selected areas.” Go to iPhone 5 will “launch” in September.

With that, the iOSphere was off and drawing the obvious conclusion: This patent is about to be realized in the iPhone 5.

“iPhone 5 Camera To Blow HTC One X Away With Multi-Point Touch Focus, Suggests Patent” proclaimed the headline at MotoringCrunch.com.

“We already leaped a large step forward with the new camera found on the iPhone 4S, and the reworked optics on the iPhone 5 are guaranteed to give you the chance to capture images that nobody has been able to capture previously using a smartphone,” MotoringCrunch declares enthusiastically. “It is still unknown whether this technology will be used in the iPhone 5 but the competition Apple faces in the smartphone market gives it a high probability.”

Way high, we’re sure.

Apple will hold its annual conference on Monday, June 11, sparking rumours the company will reveal details about the next version of the iPhone.

The Worldwide Developers Conference, which will be held in San Fransisco, often sees a product announcement or two – and there are a few rumoured products to choose from, such as the Apple iTV, the seven-inch iPad Mini and, of course, the iPhone5.

Following the death of co-founder Steve Jobs last year, new CEO Tim Cook will lead proceedings, talking to the gathered developers about the future of Apple, upcoming products and changes to both Mac software software and iOS, the mobile version of Apple’s operating system.

Speculation places the next iPhone for release this Autumn, based on recent leaks about Apple’s orders to manufacturers, and October being when the iPhone 4S was released last year.

Previous models of the iPhone were launched in the summer months, but it is unlikely Apple already has a device ready for launch, however good the company is at keeping secrets.

But iPhone enthusiasts will be hoping to get a glimpse, or at least some information, about the next phone.

If in fact the iPhone is to have a larger screen, it won’t be released anytime soon. As a developer, I know that Apple would have given us a notice period to adjust our apps for the new screen size, and so far there’s been no such notice.

It may be a new imac? Its starting to look dated but fab inside

Apple iPhone 5 to Launch by September or October

Source; Sequelnews.com

Last year, we were all eagerly anticipating the release of the Apple iPhone 5 device but unfortunately, it never came. What came instead was the release of the iPhone 4S which was a disappointment to a lot of Apple fans out there. Now, it is currently thought that the iPhone 5 was actually in development last year, but that it was held back by the late Steve Jobs as he wasn’t completed satisfied with the product.

According to analysts, the iPhone 5 will be released this year in September or October meaning that there isn’t much of a wait for Apple fans.

It is currently thought that the iPhone 5 will be released by Apple around one year after the release of the iPhone 4S device, which was released last October. it is also believed that the iPhone 5 device will feature 4G/LTE technology, allowing iPhone users to browse the internet on the phone at speeds yet to be seen on an Apple device.

The reason that it is believed that the iPhone 5 will be released before September or October of this year is because Apple has updated the iPhone annually since its release back in 2007. 2012 has yet to see a new iPhone release and Apple also has completely redesigned the iPhone device every two years since it was initially released. As the phone was not redesigned last year, this means that 2012 is the year for a total iPhone redesign (Aka. the iPhone 5).

It is already expected that Apple will see a huge amount of sales with the iPhone 5 when it is released as it has been highly anticipated for almost two years now. The iPhone now accounts for more than 40 percent of Apple’s total revenue meaning that  it is the most important product that the company makes. As well as this, the gross margin that Apple makes on the sale of each iPhone is higher than 40 percent; making it the highest of all the companies product categories.

Currently, it is thought that Apple only has a 7.9 percent share on the worldwide phone market meaning that there is still plenty of room for the company to grow. Apple is expected to obtain a higher market share from its rivals over the next few years as the iPhone sales grow bigger and bigger.

If Apple opts for an October launch date, as with the iPhone 4S device last year, the release of the iPhone 5 is only around four months away. This will allow Apple to really push the sales of the phone over the Christmas and New Year periods which has always worked extremely well for the company.

However, Apple is still in great competition with the likes of Android and Samsung which is currently gaining a large market share. The iPhone 5 will have to really live up to the huge expectations of the loyal Apple fans if Apple are to see a great success with the release.

Alleged iPhone 5 Front Panel Scheme Leaked

iPhone 5 front panel

Earlier today we’ve seem the first pictures of what it seemed to be the case of the highly-anticipated iPhone 5, a smartphone that might be introduced by Apple sometime this fall. Now it’s time to have a look at the schematic design that will be followed for the front panel of Apple’s next iPhone.

The scheme above is now revealing a possible case, but just the front of the new iPhone 5 and unlike the cases we’ve seen earlier today, it shows us that the FaceTime camera will not be re-positioned above the phone’s speaker, as Apple decided to keep it on one side, like on the previous iPhone models.

The scheme also showed us that the next iPhone 5 will have a bigger display and that the terminal’s body will be taller, but not wider than its predecessor, iPhone 4S, confirming the rumors that hit the web lately.

The design doesn’t let us know more about the new iOS-powered smartphone and unfortunately we haven’t found out something that we didn’t knew about the iPhone 5, the smartphone that Apple may showcase in October.

Even though we are almost half a year away from the official debut of the device, it seems that we are seeing for the first time what we might hold in our hands this fall.

Now that the Samsung Galaxy S III was officially launched, the international press have started to talk about Apple’s next product, which has been put to real danger by a magnificent piece of engineering coming from South Korea.

Samsung announced impressive pre-orders for Samsung Galaxy S III, as not less than 9 million units have already been booked. It’s a new record and Apple will sure want to get in front of their fierce rivals, now that the Asians managed to overtake the Cupertino-based company and become world’s biggest smartphone vendor.

Rumor has it that iPhone 5 will pack a 3.9-inch display, 1 GB of RAM, 12 megapixel camera and the quad-core Apple A6 chipset. But my experience with Apple’s habits makes me believe that we won’t see a camera greater than 8 megapixels and that the next-gen iPhone will be powered by the A5X dual-core 1 GHz SoC, currently offered along with the new iPad.

Either way, Apple is forced to develop a really “revolutionary” smartphone this time, or else they might lose the battle against Samsung.

Is Facebook Secretly Cloning the iPhone 5?

The fifth iPhone is only a few months away from release. But it seems as if Facebook is attempting to one-up Apple with an iPhone-like device of its own.

Earlier this week, the New York Times reported that Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) had hired more than six “former Apple software and hardware engineers who worked on the iPhone, and one who worked on the iPad.”

(Read about Facebook and Apple together at last here.)

Not surprisingly, the publication’s sources spoke on the condition of anonymity “for fear of jeopardizing their employment or relationships with Facebook.”

In the hours that followed, every tech publication in the world speculated on the matter, from GigaOM (which pondered if a Facebook phone was an “ambitious leap or fatal mistake”) to Business Insider (whose headline reads, “If Facebook Really Goes Into The Mobile Hardware Business, Investors Should Run Away Screaming”).

It’s not unprecedented for a software company to get into the hardware business. In addition to Google (NASDAQ: GOOG), which has yet to confirm its desire to build anything other than software, Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) found a new source of revenue in building its own devices. Its Zune MP3 player initiative may have been a total failure, but the company’s multi-featured game console, Xbox 360, has become one of Microsoft’s most profitable ventures.

But unlike the Windows maker, which manufactured the Xbox itself (and unlike Google, which might do some of its own manufacturing with the help of Motorola), Facebook is not likely to do any of its own manufacturing. At best, the company will “enhance” or “optimize” a smartphone from an existing manufacturer, such as Samsung or HTC. That’s a far cry from the hype surrounding this so-called Facebook phone.

Money Well Spent?

No one knows exactly how much money Facebook is investing in the development of its new (still unconfirmed) smartphone. But in acquiring Instagram, Facebook showed that it is not afraid to throw big money at a project that it believes is crucial to the company’s future. If the rumors are correct, Facebook may be willing to spend another billion dollars to acquire Opera Software, the company behind the popular Opera Web browser.

Thus, if Facebook firmly believes that it needs to produce its own smartphone, then it will likely be willing to spend as much as a billion dollars to get the job done.

What would a billion-dollar smartphone look like? That remains to be seen. But even if it comes close to matching the iPhone 5 in terms of specs or features, it is unlikely to pose a serious threat to Apple’s (NASDAQ: AAPL) dominance.
