iPhone 5 release date: A detailed look at the features of the new Apple iPhone 5

Over recent months we have had access to a wealth of information and leaks that have given us a picture to what lies ahead with the iPhone 5. Here I offer a summary of the key features that highlight the new iPhone 5 from Apple, both from the point of view of their characteristics and design.

Not long ago, Jonathan Ive, head of design at Apple gave an interview in which he said that he had participated enthusiastically in the most ambitious project of the company. Obviously, these words point to the iPhone 5, a smartphone that has the difficult task of reinventing both aesthetics and performance to continue to lead the market for high-end smartphones.

The first changes that can significantly differentiate the new generation Apple iPhone are implementations such as LTE and NFC connectivity, new processor and bigger screen.

Size

The trend of the market, and users in general, is that of smartphones with larger screens. So Ive should have managed a design good enough to keep within allowable dimensions of the housing and in turn to accommodate a 4-inch display. After the appearance of numerous images, the bottom line is that we will see a longer iPhone 5. With respect to the width, 51.6 millimeters should be respected as a matter of convenience to preserve a solution for the optimal resolution for applications already available in the App Store. As for the thickness of the iPhone 5, the latest rumors suggest the iPhone 5 will be only 7.6 millimeters thick.

Materials

It is believed Apple has opted for a change of materials. If the iPhone 4S was dominated by glass, the iPhone 5 may be the turning point. All leaks coincide in a unibody design with a back cover made of metal. What we don’t know so far is the type of alloy Apple has used. Besides the aesthetic change, a metallic finish would enhance the resistance of the casing, which was a missed point in the previous two generations. In addition, the cosmetic change would also help technical implications because metal is said to favor the reception of the wireless terminal.

Dock-connector smaller

Although it seems like more of a solution for the interior components, the truth is that it also has a direct impact on the aesthetics of the phone. There are strong indications that Apple will opt for a new smaller dock connecter and replace the current 30-pin dock. Specifically, images have appeared showing a 19 and 9-pin connector. Likewise, there is speculation that the company could move the famous Macbook Magsafe connections to the new iPhone 5.

With the replacement of the dock with a “mini Dock”, Apple would have a larger hole to place a bigger and more responsive speaker. As in the previous section, the redesign of the bottom of the phone will affect the appearance of the model. Furthermore, this idea may be driven by an improved audio quality for the loudspeaker.

The leaked images of the iPhone 5 mainly reflect a model with slight tweaks, and every detail we see implies that Apple has devised many barely noticeable solutions, but with contrasting results. This applies to the front camera, it has been placed closer to the speaker. It is assumed this was done to make room for a modem to provide 4G LTE connectivity for the iPhone 5. In the case of the 3.5 mm Jack connection, it will move from the upper right to the lower left side. The reason could possibly be for the same purpose as the front camera, a redistribution of the internal components to optimize space.

Apple’s next-generation iPhone is in the wings and will reportedly be introduced on Sept. 12th and the official iPhone 5 release date will be Sept. 21st. As always, to stay updated with all the latest iPhone 5 details and news, simply click subscribe below.

iPhone 5 To Have Competition After Release

Apple appears to be all set to unveil the next version of its popular smartphone, the iPhone 5 next month but it appears that its competitors are waiting to steal at least a bit of the limelight from it. The California tech giant which is now the world’s highest valued company follows the trend of releasing a new device every year and along with the iPhone 5, it is possible that the company will introduce a smaller version of its popular tablet, the iPad and perhaps even a television, the iTV.

While analysts and critics expect the iPhone to do very well and are already predicting sales figures, with some saying that it will reach 250 million units and surpass all previous records, there will be challenges it has to overcome. In fact, the first phone that comes to mind is the Samsung Galaxy SIII, the powerhouse that was only recently released. However, that is not the only device that could play spoil sport as there are others which could prove superior to the new iPhone in terms of both design and power.

The device that could offer the stiffest competition is likely to be the Galaxy Note 2, Samsung’s phone and tablet hybrid. Initially it was thought the large 5.3” screen of the Galaxy Note would put off buyers but it was pretty successful in Korea and Samsung wants to take advantage of the scenario and release the improved new version in the American and European markets too. It features a quad core processor and a large 5.5” screen and can offer some serious compettion.

The next device is the HTC Zenith and though the company may have been written off already by many critics because of its poor performance, that doesn’t stop its phones from pushing the iPhone off its throne. The Zenith is going to have a quad core processor and a 4.7” LCD 2 display and the Windows Phone 8 OS. The other HTC model is the Endeavor and is going to feature Android Jellybean and a fast quad core processor that is clocked at 1.7GHz, if rumors are to be believed.

In addition it is expected that both Nokia and Huawei are going to release powerful smartphones and all these are going to enter the market around the same time as the iPhone. It is possible that even Apple fanatics will have other options soon!

iPhone 5 already a smash in China: Ice cream that is

While Apple fans in the U.S. continue to wait for the iPhone 5 launch event, which is rumored to be Sept. 12, fans in China already have gotten their hands on the iPhone 5, and they love it. In Shenyang, capital of Liaoning province, the iPhone 5 – as ice cream – is a hit.

The ice cream is a bestselling product. Gao Yuxin, head of the marketing center of Deshi Group, the producer of the ice cream, spoke to China Daily about the confection on Friday.

“The target customers of iPhone and our ice cream are the same – young people who are stylish and fashionable. So we want to make use of iPhone’s big influence to attract more customers.”

Shop owners are just as happy with the ice cream as the manufacturer is. Zhou Duo, owner of a small shop in Shenyang said, “I can sell about 50 Apple ice creams per day, while only selling about 10 of other brands. Most of the buyers are young people.”

To be clear, the ice cream itself is shaped like an Apple logo, right down to the missing bite. The wrapper is the iPhone-ish part of the product design; it has a smartphone printed on it, and the words “iPhone 5.”

Notably, in China there are 45 trademark classes that “iPhone” could be trademarked in. Apple has only registered the term in 27 of them. The rest of the categories have had trademarks registered by Chinese companies.

Jiang Di, a lawyer, told China Daily that “Deshi can use the trademark because it is used in a different sector that Apple Inc. didn’t register.”

At the same time, though, Jiang added, “Although this kind of registration is not illegal, it should not be encouraged. It will add a burden to trademark management and harm the development of domestic brands.

“The authority should revise the Trademark Law to prevent such behavior. It’s better for domestic companies to learn from Apple’s technology and marketing strategy rather than using its brand to advertise.”

Deshi filed an application to register the trademark “iPhone 5″ to the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce last year; they are still waiting for the approval.

Meanwhile, while Chinese consumers already have their iPhone 5, the rest of us wait until the rumored Sept. 12 announcement and Sept. 21 launch.

iPhone 5 Preorders, iPad Mini Predictions, And Apple TV: This Week In Apple …

  • So, So Much News About The ‘iPad Mini’

Just as this week’s political news cycle surrounded Paul Ryan and how he fits in with Mitt Romney, so too has this week’s tech cycle revolved around a smaller, thinner, more mysterious version of a well-known public entity: We are talking, of course, about the iPad Mini, the long-rumored miniaturized version of the 10-inch iPad that is said to have a 7.0-inch screen and a low, low price tag (a href=”http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/14/paul-ryan-worth-millions-_n_1774346.html?utm_hp_ref=elections-2012″ target=”_hplink”uh, not Ryan-esque/a) to compete with the likes of the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire.

Ayn Rand fetishizers aside (and at the risk of straining an already tenuous metaphor), there were three notable reports concerning the iPad Mini to bubble up this week. The first comes from Canada’s number one Apple blog iMore, which you may remember as the well-sourced news outlet who first predicted the iPad 3′s release date as well as the widely-accepted September Apple event date for the iPhone 5.

This time, iMore is a href=”http://www.imore.com/ipad-mini-smaller-bezel-incredibly-thin-and-light” target=”_hplink”hearing some fresh whispers/a about the form and release date of the iPad Mini (which it still claims will be announced on September 12, along with the new iPhone). iMore hears that the iPad Mini will have the same thickness as the (super-thin) iPod Touch; that it will be much lighter than the current iPad; and that it will cost between $200 and $250. a href=”http://www.imore.com/ipad-mini-smaller-bezel-incredibly-thin-and-light” target=”_hplink”More on that at iMore/a.

9to5Mac, meanwhile, a href=”http://9to5mac.com/2012/08/14/ipad-mini-will-look-like-a-large-ipod-touch-with-smaller-side-bezels-gallery/” target=”_hplink”not only has a mock-up/a (drink!) of what it thinks are the dimensions of the iPad Mini (at left); it also has some information of its own, too. The iPad Mini, it says, will look a lot like a bigger iPod Touch, rather than a smaller iPad. (Maybe instead of the iPad Mini, they could call it the iPod Maxi? iMaxiPad? Tim Cook, are you listening?). It puts the price at somewhere between $200 and $300, for a launch in November/December. a href=”http://9to5mac.com/2012/08/14/ipad-mini-will-look-like-a-large-ipod-touch-with-smaller-side-bezels-gallery/” target=”_hplink”More at 9to5Mac/a, including what this thing might look like next to the Nexus 7.

Finally, John Gruber of Daring Fireball (who is close like Glenn with Apple PR folks) a href=”http://daringfireball.net/2012/08/ipad_mini_even_througher” target=”_hplink”weighs in with his own predictions/a, especially as it concerns pixel density, aspect ratio, bezel size, the precise millimeter measure of each dimension, etc. If this is how you like to spend your time, a href=”http://daringfireball.net/2012/08/ipad_mini_even_througher” target=”_hplink”you can read that here/a; Gruber does predict that an iPad Mini will be quite thin and quite light and that it will more closely resemble an iPad than an iPod Touch, which seems to be the hot debate nowadays (in certain circles).

What all of this indicates, when taken together with the reports from Bloomberg and Reuters, is that an iPad Mini (or iPad Air, or iPad Nano, or whatever) is looking more likely than ever to arrive in stores by the end of 2012. We had previously catalogued the ways in which Apple PR was likely leaking details about the next iPhone; the past month’s iPadito rumors are probably coming from the same place. Apple is priming for an iPad Mini launch: Expect it by Christmas, if not sooner.

And now, I know you’ve been doing that little dance you do when you really have to pee but the bathroom is occupied: Hold it in no more, hear is your weekly dose of iPhone 5 rumors…

iPhone 5 billed as biggest product upgrade in history

Regular readers will know that as the release of the iPhone 5 gets closer the more we hear about rumored specs and features. Although we will not have confirmation on those things until Apple chooses to let everybody in on the secret, one thing we do know is that this will be a major product launch and in fact one well respected analyst has now spoken of his belief that the iPhone 5 will be the biggest product upgrade in history.

We have been saying for some time that we expect the iPhone 5 to be a major upgrade and that Apple needs to go all out to really pull something out of the bag with the next iPhone. So many new and hugely impressive Android handsets are now available or about to release and Apple needs to regain its reputation for cutting-edge technology and offering something completely new to attract even more customers to its iconic phone.

We all know that the iPhone 5 will sell in huge numbers, almost regardless of its specs, features and design, simply because of the amount of loyal Apple customers and the Apple brand that appeals to so many. However, just how much of a hit it will be remains to be seen but it’s fair to say that the majority of people are expecting something pretty spectacular from Apple. It seems that the experts are in accordance as well known Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster spoke on Wednesday about the iPhone 5 release saying his company believed that “the new phone will be the largest consumer electronics product upgrade in history,” according to MarketWatch.

The iPhone 5 is expected to be unveiled at an Apple event on September 12 with pre-orders available from that date and rumblings of an actual release on September 21 although of course this is as yet unconfirmed. This is earlier than the October release date that had been widely expected for some time and because the next iPhone launch seems that it will arrive sooner than expected, analysts have been re-evaluating estimates on Apple’s potential earnings.

An earlier launch means better numbers for Apple and also major carriers and sellers of the iPhone 5, as well as pleasing the huge amounts of potential customers who have been patiently waiting for the next iPhone. Another analyst, John Hodulik, has predicted that carriers ATT, Verizon and Sprint will activate around 10.1 million iPhones if the iPhone 5 is released in the September quarter rather than the 6.3 million iPhone activations expected for the same period without the iPhone 5. It seems as though this is an all-round good move from Apple then.

As far as what we expect to see from the iPhone 5 we are certainly hoping for a new design, something really eye-catching to make an impression as we know that many were disappointed that the iPhone 4S looked the same as its predecessor. Rumored specs and features include an A6 quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16/32/64GB storage options, larger 4-inch display, new smaller dock connector, improved rear camera to possibly 12-megapixels, 4G LTE connectivity and all running on iOS 6 although of course all of that is not yet official. We feel many will feel a little disappointed if most of the above does not appear for the iPhone 5 though and of course a new groundbreaking feature would also be welcomed, although maybe that’s asking a little too much!

We’d like to hear your thoughts on the iPhone 5 and whether you think it will be the biggest consumer electronics product launch in history? Do you think the new iPhone will be able to live up to the hype or maybe you feel that so much is expected we may all feel let down when it finally appears? What new groundbreaking feature would you most like to see? Let us know by sending your comments.

There seem to be a big fan following for iPhone 5 in China as well. After recent reports from a Chinese website suggest that iPhone 5 and iPad Mini might look almost the same size a chinese Newspaper has come up with a different story. Apple.pro has posted some of the images of a Chinese newspaper daily. The images suggest that iPhone 5 is going to be just 7.6mm thick and if this is believed to be true then the new iPhone 5 will be the thinnest iPhone ever produced. The images also suggest that iPhone 5 is going to be completely redesigned model with a smaller dock connector and headphone jack.

iPhone 5 release date details: Where to sell old phone before new iPhone 5 hits

With new iPhone 5 release date rumors surfacing almost daily, many consumers want to know where to sell their iPhone 4S models for the best deal ahead of the new phone’s release. According to an August 16 Gizmodo report, the place to sell your old phone for the most money might shock you.

While there is no confirmed date, the anticipated iPhone 5 release date is September 12. If it’s not that day, it may be September 21. Whenever it happens, it is rapidly approaching, and many people want to get it, but they have an expensive iPhone 4S to sell in advance of buying the latest and greatest offering from Apple, which is rumored to have some enticing new features.

It seems that you can get the very best deal on ebay. This version of the iPhone, which includes Siri, is selling for $350 with “Buy it Now.” However, for phones that people are bidding on, they are going for as much as $400.

One of the worst deals for selling your iPhone 4S is at RadioShack. Phones in completely perfect condition will get $250. However, most phones aren’t considered perfect. RadioShack will give you as little as $73, which is way too low.

At Amazon, you can get gift cards ranging from $120 to $415 depending on your phone’s condition. However, to get the full amount, your phone has to be in mint condition, and you have to have your charger and packaging.

There are other ways to sell your iPhone 4S ahead of the iPhone 5 release date, but you will likely get less money. They are Craigslist (be careful), Gazelle, InstantSale, Buy My Tronics, and NextWorth. Of course, you will either get less money or have to deal with people coming to your house with Craigslist.

It’s very likely that the prices available for the phone will go down quickly, so if you want to sell, then you need to do it soon to get the very best deal.
